Matt Mitrione to fight in UFC TUF 10 – The Heavyweights

Matt MitrioneSpringfield native and former NFL player, Matt Mitrione, has been chosen to compete on the next season of the Ultimate Fighter TV Show – TUF 10. The new season is being called “The Heavyweights”, and the hype has already begun for what has the potential to be the most exciting season ever!

Mitrione has been preparing for a career in MMA for about two years now, training with UFC veterans such as Chris Lytle and Jake O’Brien.  Matt had actually planned to have his first MMA fight at our show last November, but was sidelined with a last minute knee injury.  He obviously wasn’t slowed down for long as he recently earned his way onto potentially the most talented cast in TUF history.

The biggest name to be announced for this season was internet sensation, Kimbo Slice.  However, Kimbo is far from the most experienced fighter in the house as the list also includes former IFL standout Roy “Big Country” Nelson and 6’10”, 37 fight veteran Wes Sims.  As if that wasn’t enough, Matt is actually just 1 of 4 former NFL players in this larger than life cast of 16.

As you probably know, the coaches for this season will be former Light Heavyweight Champions Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and “Sugar” Rashad Evans.  Rampage actually turned down a title shot against Machida so that he could be a coach against Rashad and fight in a grudge match at the end of the season.  Personally, I can’t remember the last time I was this excited for a TV Show!

TUF 10

Series is scheduled to start on Sept. 16th.  We’ll post more updates here as they are available.  Hopefully there will be a viewing party here in Springfield once the season gets under way so that we can show our support for Matt.  Check out a trailer for the upcoming season here.
